Matheson Museum Library and Archives Honored by the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation

Organization Accepts the 2018 Historic Preservation Award for Meritorious Achievement/Adaptive Use

(Gainesville, FL) — Goodwin Company, pioneers of River-Recovered® heart pine and cypress, is proud to announce that the Matheson Museum Library and Archives renovation project was awarded a 2018 Historic Preservation Award for Meritorious Achievement / Adaptive Use by the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.  Goodwin Company nominated the project for this esteemed award which recognizes “historic preservationists, organizations, programs or preservation achievements that have made a significant impact in preserving Florida’s history and heritage.”  The Matheson History Museum, Joyner Construction and Jay Reeves Associates were the official award recipients.

Constructed in 1933, the building was originally home of the Gainesville Gospel Tabernacle. It later became the Barrow Family Antique Store before being transformed into The Melting Pot fondue restaurant. In 2017, the building was renovated to become the new home of the Matheson Museum Library and Archives. The interior is finished with Goodwin Company’s Old Florida longleaf heart pine flooring. Goodwin’s flooring, laced with red toned growth rings, complements the building’s original ceiling beams, contributing to the authenticity of this historic Gainesville, Florida building.

Goodwin Company was pleased be part of this important historic preservation project. Jeffrey Forbes, Marketing Manager for Goodwin Company, was on hand for the award presentation which took place on Friday, May 18th at the Jesse Ball DuPont Center in Jacksonville, Florida.  TJ Salmons and Ryland Wagner of Joyner Construction accepted the award.

“Historic preservation projects like this are the cornerstone of what we do,” explains Forbes.  “We recognize the importance of remembering and restoring our past.  Using authentic materials that are similar or the same as what was specified in the original design is key to any historic preservation project. Goodwin’s reclaimed wood was used in the Matheson Museum Library and Archives restoration to symbolize early 1900s aesthetics.”

“Providing reclaimed wood that aids in preservation of our architectural heritage is an important part of Goodwin’s mission”, says Carol Goodwin, President of Goodwin Company.

The Matheson received private donations and a grant from the Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources to help finance this adaptive reuse project, which was completed by Joyner Construction, Jay Reeves Associates, and Rudy Ditmar of Rudy’s Professional floor sanding.

Trane Air Conditioners: An Overview

Air conditioners are essential for anyone living in hot climates, but even in snowy Wisconsin the summers are frequently blistering. A distant dream of sweating folks everywhere just a century ago, cool air has become a commonplace luxury in developed countries worldwide.

Trane air conditioners are popular temperature regulating products used in residential buildings from single-family homes to apartment complexes. The many products that Trane Incorporated produces are also used in commercial, professional and institutional buildings. Government, tourism and education buildings all over the world choose Trane to keep their temperature at a comfortable level.

In fact, Trane systems are famously used in over a dozen high profile buildings around the world. The Australian Stock Exchange in Melbourne, the International Airport in Bangkok, The Kremlin in Moscow and Sea World in Florida all proudly boast Trane HVAC systems to keep visitors cool.

Even the Statue of Liberty and the Washington Monument are kept ventilated by Trane products! This brand’s popularity among big businesses and buildings is evidence of the product quality. In the service arena, Trane makes sure each technician on duty meets the Comfort Specialist guidelines set forth by the company.

Now a global corporation, the small shop that was to become Trane Incorporated opened its doors in a small Midwestern town in 1885.James Trane, a Norwegian immigrant settled in La Crosse, Wisconsin, originally opened a store selling plumbing supplies and services. Both James and his son Reuben had a knack for tinkering with HVAC inventions so forty years into business, the Tranes changed tracks.

An inventor like his father, Reuben came up with the idea of a convector radiator in 1925, an invention that drastically improved the ease of use and efficiency of radiators. In 1931, forty-six years after James Trane started his small plumbing shop, the company released their first air conditioner.

Today, Trane Incorporated is owned by Ingersoll-Rand, an Irish company also founded in the late 1800s. Ingersoll-Rand sells everything from golf carts to bike locks and, of course, HVAC equipment. Many other high quality brand names, including Kryptonite locks, are part of the Ingersoll-Rand mega corporation.

Trane sells air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, thermostats and air handlers. Manufactured and sold in over a dozen global locations, Tranes products are available on nearly every continent – North America, South American, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Trane provides a wide variety of heating, ventilation and air conditioning services and products available globally. The brand is known for high quality and high efficiency products. In the past few decades, the company has developed an increased interest in creating environmentally friendly or reduced impact designs.

Trane air conditioners and other HVAC products have earned the brand global recognition. Contracts with big name buildings such as the Statue of Liberty can be cited to prove the trustworthy nature and high quality product associated with Trane Incorporated.

Trane Now Offers a New 3-to-5 Ton Light Commercial Rooftop Unit

New offering fits a common roof curb, providing customers an
expanded offering ideal for replacement applications

Davidson, NC. March 8, 2017 – Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, added a 3-5-ton offering to its portfolio of Foundation™ light-commercial rooftop heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) units to provide customers with a new solution ideal for emergency replacement.

The 3-5-ton unit footprint fits a common roof curb used on many existing commercial buildings. The unit can be installed without the need for an adapter, which saves customers time and money during installation.

“Unexpected breakdowns cause equipment downtime, increased maintenance costs and loss in efficiency,” said Jeff Moe, product leader, commercial unitary, Trane. “We understand the importance of not only having a solution that is affordable, but is also able to be delivered and installed quickly.”

Trane actively manages the design, manufacturing and inventory process for all Foundation rooftop units to ensure models are ready to ship — often the same day an order is placed. Immediate availability minimizes negative impacts an organization may experience when an older unit fails and is awaiting replacement.

In addition, contractors can easily and quickly access product information for Foundation rooftop units using Trane 360°™ — a free downloadable mobile app for HVAC contractors and service professionals. Trane 360° also features parts ordering capability, and allows users to find the nearest parts locations for all Foundation light commercial units.

The 3-5-ton rooftop units also feature durable components that have been tested in real applications — including a long-lasting tubular heat exchanger, reliable gas ignition system and proven compressor technology. In addition, the units have simplified control wiring integration and are certified to meet the most recent energy-efficiency standards established by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

The Vein and Laser Center of New Jersey Earns Vein Center Accreditation by IAC

More than one half of Americans age 50 and older are affected by varicose veins. Varicose veins occur when the valves in the leg veins no longer function, causing blood to pool in the legs. In some cases, this condition progresses to a more serious for of venous disease called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Whether to relieve symptoms and/pr improve appearance, treating varicose veins can be performed by vein centers that specialize in the evaluation and management of superficial venous disorders.

There are many factors that contribute to an accurate vein treatment and management. The training and experience of the vein specialist performing the procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure, all contribute to a positive patient outcome. IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and a dedication to continuous improvement.

The Vein and Laser Center of New Jersey Located in Hamburg, NJ has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Vein Center in the area of Superficial Venous Treatment and Management.

Accreditation by IAC indicated that The Vein and Laser Center of New Jersey of New Jersey has undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with the published Standards, thus demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in vein treatment and management. Comprised of a detailed self-evaluation followed by a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, the IAC accreditation process enables both the critical operational and technical components of the applicant facility to be assessed, including representative case studies and their corresponding final reports.

About IAC

IAC provides accreditation programs for vascular testing, echocardiography, nuclear/PET, MRI, diagnostic CT, dental CT, carotid stenting, vein treatment and management and cardiac electrophysiology. The IAC programs for accreditation are dedicated to ensuring quality patient care and promoting health care and all support one common mission: Improving health care through accreditation. IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community, as illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to venous disorders, which include physicians, physician extenders, nurses, and ultrasound technologists. To date, the IAC accrediting divisions have granted accreditation to more than 14,000 sites throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

The Vein and Laser Center of New Jersey is one of only two accredited IAC facilities in New Jersey and the only one in Northern New Jersey. Our office is also IAC accredited in Vascular Testing. Congratulations!

Sustainable, River-Recovered® Heart Pine Adds Eco-Friendly Appeal to University of Florida’s Newest Academic Center

Antique Wood Meets Contemporary Design in Highly Anticipated On-Campus Structure

(Gainesville, FL) – Sustainable, River-Recovered® Heart Pine is the focal point of the University of Florida’s (UF) new, world-class, Otis Hawkins Center for Academic and Personal Excellence (Hawkins Center); designed to support and enhance the academic experiences of the university’s athletes. The wood – which encompasses 10,000 square feet of ceiling and wall paneling – was provided by Goodwin Company, pioneers of the River-Recovered® process. Goodwin recovers antique logs from river bottoms – where they have been perfectly preserved for hundreds of years – and mills them into arguably the most beautiful and sustainable wood flooring and paneling in the world.

According to Chip Howard, Executive Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs, UF sits upon what once was a vast longleaf pine forest. Longleaf is pinus palustris or “pine of the swamp.” UF Grounds Services uses many native species when planting and several of the new buildings on campus have added young longleaf pines into their landscapes. The incorporation of locally sourced antique heart pine in the Hawkins Center is a nod to the legacy and shared history between UF and that ancient longleaf forest.

“The new Hawkins Center incorporates locally sourced, antique wood into a contemporary design,” explains Howard. “We wanted to build the highest caliber, most unique and modern collegiate academic center to provide all the necessary resources for our students, so Goodwin’s River-Recovered® Heart Pine just made sense.  Goodwin is the pioneer in the industry. The sustainability of the wood, coupled with its unmatched quality and remarkable beauty, contribute significantly to the overall aesthetics and appeal of the building.”

This is not the first time Goodwin’s wood has been used on the UF campus. Last year, the company provided their River-Recovered® Vertical Heart Pine, Legacy® Heart Pine and Curly Heart Pine for use in the Dasburg House, home to UF President Kent Fuchs, Ph.D. Goodwin collaborated with an exemplary team of professionals on the Hawkins Center project, including Parrish-McCall Constructors Inc. (project builder), DR Nickelson & Co. (wood installer), Beverly Frank of Gould Evans Architects (specifier of the River-Recovered® Heart Pine) and Chip Howard and his staff.

“Incorporating traditional wood to warm up contemporary spaces is trending,” says Carol Goodwin, President of Goodwin Company. “The Hawkins Center exemplifies the latest and greatest in modern design. We were pleased to have the opportunity to work with such an incredible building design team on this very exciting project.”

The 83,000 square foot Hawkins Center celebrated its official dedication on Monday, June 27, 2016. The center provides UF’s more than 480 student athletes with a study area along with tutoring, academic advising, nutrition, research, wellness, leadership, job placement and other services.
